Dear Hummer, 20 mpg sucks. Hummer seems to think that takes care of the environmental needs. If every car company keeps dragging us back to 20 mpg engines we'll never progress - we've already moved back in the USA to mpg rates far behind what my 1985 tercel wagon had, and you can't even buy a Honda accord wagon in the US any more because the oil companies are working in tandem with car manufacturers to stuff SUVs down our throats as "what the American people want."

This is not a very strong example of greenwashing. This is just a very stupid and bad ad displaying terrible stereotypes about both men and environmentalists by a company that is among the most blatant in not caring about protecting the environment -- it's of course self conscious about their bad image. Would someone educate the people at Greenpeace about what Greenwashing actually is and get us a page of greenwashing ads to rate? This entire page except for maybe the Walmart ad is full of ads for bad corporate citizens that are only barely greenwashing. Greenwashing is an ad that tries to present a polluting or bad corporate citizen as though it is a company that does good things for the environment, while hiding the fact they continue to pollute. That standard is almost entirely missing from these ads you have put up. They are worth seeing but you should give them a better label -- create a different page for greenwashing ads. This page is mostly "horrible ads by horrible companies." Not the same thing as greenwashing.

I don't agree with those who say its funnny "because it's targeted for men." Obviously Greenpeace and everyone gets the joke but the critisism Greenpeace is pointing out is that the stereotypes of men and women don't help find a resolution in the political steps that Greenpeace and environmentalists are trying to pull to find a balance between a prosperous world and a green one. Girls are stereotyped to be more nature tuned and compassionate while guys are exaggeratigely stereotyped in the United States to eat more jerky and meat to show off manliness with unnecesarily large trucks, etc. Its "girly" to buy organic food or buy a green car and "manly" to read less and be more conscious about football. If a guy acts a bit green concious he has to balance it by following stupid stereotypes? Actualy that is hypocritical, just like Greenwashing. These exaggerated opposing sides make it harder for people to work together for a better cause, because people will follow these stereotypes and do because they identify with one side and are raised not to understand the other.
